We did it!!
The first week of second grade was a huge success. I am so proud of each and everyone of your children. We spent the first week learning the rituals and routines of the classroom. A few activities included:

-The children were given foil, pipe cleaners and popsicle sticks. they were told to create “something” with their team using only the materials provided. The point of this activity was to work as a team and to get their creativity flowing. Challenges encountered were: not brainstorming ideas with the team before starting, not agreeing on what to make and wanting to use other material such as glue, paper scissors ect. We has some really creative ideas such as palm trees, a dolphin and a planets. After the team building activity, the children were given their own materials to make something independently and then write a descriptive paragraph about their creation.
-We completed our beginning of year writing prompt. These are hanging inside the classroom.
-We discussed kindness and what it meant to throw kindness like confetti. We then created a self portrait and wrote about what we could do to share kindness. These are hanging outside of our classroom. Come check them out!

A few reminders:
-Pick up is on Peach Street at 3:45.
-I will ask for donations to provide for the afternoon (that seems to be a long stretch of time). Your child may bring a snack from home if they would like a morning snack. No sugar please.
-Southmoor Birthday Celebration Policy: We celebrate birthday’s once a month at Southmoor. Our birthday celebration day for the months of August & September is on September 9/28 .  This helps us cut down on the amount of sweets brought into the classroom. If your child had a birthday in the month of August and in September, you may bring in a treat. Please email me so that we mix up treats and don't have a zillion cupcakes.
