Your child will need to bring a sack lunch from home. If you will need to order a lunch from school, please let Mrs. Brady know right away. This week in Superkids we will: -Decode and encode words with ar/är/, or/ôr/spelling patterns -Encode Pattern Words with -art, -ark, -arm, -orn, -ort, -or -Understand and discuss the meaning of Memory Words -Recognize the meaning of nouns with -er endings Ask your child: What sound do er, ir and ur sound like? Write a word that uses each of these patterns In small reading groups we are: -Working on developing our comprehension skills and strategies for Non-Fiction texts. We will: -Draw and support conclusions -Sequence events or steps Connect text to self or experience Respond to text in writing Recognize text features Determine important ideas Ask your child: Can you identify 3 new facts you learned this week in while reading a your non-fiction texts. Why did the author write the article? What did the author want you to learn? This week in writing, we will: -Continue to work on Autobiographies and completing final drafts and illustration. -Some of us are finishing, so we will be asking for feedback and working on final drafts. -Evaluate own and others' writing Ask your child: Why do writers need to write more than one draft? What does every sentence need? Do you know what step comes next after Revising your draft? This week in math, we will: -Students will solve story problems in relation to place value and base ten. -Students will think about how the base ten system and solving story problems using dimes, pennies and groups of ten and singles -Students will solve one step story problems using addition and subtraction -Students will use different strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems: number line, 100 grids, cubes and pictures. -Students will build fluency with addition and subtraction facts from 0-20. -Students will count by 2,5 and 10 (skip counting) which will help them to add and subtract on a number line. Ask your child: Kira has 87 baseball cards. Each pack of cards has 10 in each pack. How many groups of 10 will she have? How many singles does she have?
