Happy Third Week of School. Can you believe we have made it this far already? I hope you all had a wonderful long weekend.
We need: donations of those plastic containers with lids that you may get when buying lunch meat or small size Tupperware to store individual math work kits. Please make sure your child is practicing their weekly spelling words with you throughout the week. Homework is due on Thursday. Spelling Tests are on (most) Fridays. Please look for last week spelling test to go home in the following week Thursday folder. We are finishing up i-ready testing. Look for the report to go home this week in Thursday Folders. Curriculum Night is this Thursday from 6:00-7:00pm. Please meet in Mrs. Whiz’ room for the Second Grade Team presentation for the first half of the presentation and then we will head to our classroom for questions and a classroom tour. Session 1: 6:00-6:15 (Team presentation in Mrs. Whiz’ room) 6:15-6:30 in OUR room 107 for questions, classroom tour and a portrait guess who. Session 2: 6:30-6:45 (Team presentation in Mrs. Whiz’ room) 6:45-7:00 in OUR room 107 for questions, classroom tour and a portrait guess who. In Superkids, we are reviewing th, wh and question words: who, what, when, where and why and homonyms. We will also discuss the difference between types of sentences such as: statements and questions. We will also be learning the contractions are not, is not, will not and are not. Some of us are still struggling with when to you –ch or –tch at the end of a word. Ask your child when they should use –tch at the end of a word. (–tch follows a vowel and –ch follows a consonant.) In Math, we continue to represent and solve problems involving addition and subtraction and discusss if order really does matter when solving addition and subtraction problems. Ask your child, Does 8+2 have the same answer as 5+5? How do you know? In writing, we will focus on writing complete sentences and how to avoid writing run on sentences. In Social Studies, we will be drawing self portraits and setting learning goals for the year. We will also be discussing Habits of Mind. Here is our classroom Sly Reply sign up link.
