Wednesday, the second grade teachers will be in building but we will all have subs because we will be planning for our project based learning units. Thursday: I have super exciting news!! As of 3:30ish TODAY I became an AUNT!!!! She is my first niece and I am so very thrilled. I can’t wait to share the news with the kids tomorrow. This means I will be taking a half day on Thursday to go and meet her! Friday: NO SCHOOL Monday: I am out because I am celebrating my one year anniversary! I know, lots of big news. Thank you for your understanding and I can’t wait to meet with all of you next week for conferences. Please do not hesitate to email me, but Friday afternoon-Monday morning I will be out of email range. I will get back to any emails that afternoon (promise)! :) Speaking of conferences, if you have not yet signed up, I am going to start putting you my calendar. I need to attempt to meet with all of you to talk about all of your FABULOUS children. So now is your chance.. go and sign up before all the good times are gone. Quick, go! Starting tomorrow evening I am going to start signing you guys up and sending out emails :) If you need help signing up, please call me or email me and I will be happy to assist. Halloween Party TOMORROW! Please don’t forget to send your child in with their goodies from the sign-up genius. I broke it down below, I don’t think I missed anything but please double check me! Please send your child’s costume to school in their backpack. No weapons or anything scary. Please leave special accessories at home if you are worries that they may get lost or broken. We will change at 1:30 I have Diana and Emily coming to help with party set up and the costume change around 1:30. This week in Superkids: Students will read words with ow, ou/ou/; ow/ō/ sounds. Students will read Pattern Words with ow, -ound, -out, -ouch, and -our Students will encode Pattern Words with ow (grow), ow (now), ound, out, ouch. Students will understand and discuss the meaning of homonyms. Students will read words with tag-along e Ask your child, What sound do the letters -ow and -ou make? When do you know to use the ow in the word (at the end: grow) when do you know to use the ou in a word (when you hear the sound in the middle of a word: ground). What is the tricker in snow? What sound does the -ow make in snow (the long o sound) In guided reading, students will continue to read non-fiction texts to determine cause and effect, determine important ideas and use graphic organizers to summarize important details. Ask your child about the article Night Lights. What were the jobs of the 3 people that were interviewed? Why were their jobs important? This week in math: Your child will take their Unit 2 post test. We have finished our unit covering fractions, arrays and geometry. This week, the children will take an i-ready growth monitoring test and practice addition and subtraction facts. We will take our Unit 3 pre-test on Monday. This week in writing, We are learning to organize information using graphic organizers. i am going to introduce Thinking Maps to the children. These are wonderful tools to help children organize their thoughts before writing. i will post more information about this next week. We will also start learning how to write a formal letter. We had some practice writing our pencils but our format was pretty loose.
