(skipped) What does ending sound /ed/ tell us? (past tense) What is an adjective? (describes a noun) This week in math, we will: Use a place-value model to represent a 2-digit number as tens and ones Determine a quantity represented by a given number of tens and ones Find combinations of 2-digit numbers, using only tens and ones Recognize that different combinations of tens and ones for the same number are equivalent Determine the difference between a number and a multiple of 10 up to 100 Use an equation to represent a two-digit number as the sum of multiples of ten and some numbers of ones Ask your child: How many tens are in the number 47? How many ones? What happens when we are adding two-digit numbers and the ones-place value is greater than ten? This week in writing, we will: Understand the difference between nouns, verbs, and adjectives Understand word order Recognize that using detail makes us stronger writers Begin a character study with Stellaluna We will use our character findings to write about how she changes (character traits) Ask your child: What is a noun? Verb? Adjective? Why do writers use those parts of speech? What is the story of Stellaluna? How does she change throughout the story?
