I hope you all had a fantastic break. I was very busy getting all of my final papers submitted for my practicums and classes. I graduate December 15th and to get everything almost done is such an exciting feeling! I am SUPER thankful for that. I have missed all your children and am excited to hear about all the fun things that may have done over break. Once again, thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your support and for sharing your children with me. I am grateful for our amazing year so far in second grade!
In Superkids we will, -Read words with gn/n/, wr/r/, and mb/m/ -Encode Pattern Words with kn, gn/n/ and wr/r/ -Read and write words with prefix un- -Use a dictionary or glossary to determine spelling, pronunciation, and definitions Ask your child, when a word ends in mb what letter is silent (the b) What letter is silent in Kn, wr and gn (the first letter) In Literacy, COMPREHENSION STRATEGIES/SKILLS FOR NONFICTION -Determine important ideas -Determine cause and effect -Respond to text -Use pictures -Give and support opinions -Draw and support conclusions -Connect text to self or experience -Visualize -Recognize text features -Make and confirm predictions -Compare and contrast texts or pictures Ask your child, what article they read each day? What is the new issue of Super magazine about? In Writing, we are beginning a new unit called Explanations. What does this mea? (to tell someone about something). Ask your child to make a list of things they like to do. Ask them, using transition words, can you explain to me how to _____. Classify and categorize words Structure a piece of writing by using sequence words Write expository texts and focus on a central idea In math, we will begin a new session. In this session, we will add and subtract within 100. Students will solve add to and take form story problems. Students will also determine whether a given equation equals 100. -Children will use know combinations to add two or more numbers. -Children will find the difference between 20 and a given number Ask your child: -How does knowing 6+6 help you solve 5+6 or 7+6 -If you have 2 strips and 6 single stickers + 2 strips and 3 single stickers, how many does you have? Show the equation and sticker notation.
