Can you believe it is almost winter break?! This week the children now have flexible seating choices that they are able to make every morning. No more assigned seats? I know, brave of me since this group is so chatty but they have really shown leadership the past few weeks. We now have a floor table, a wobble table, a standing table and a traditional table!!

BUSY next few days. Please check out the updates..

This Thursday we will have a pizza party for Read-a-Thon. We were one of the classes that read the most minutes! Thank you for your support and I am so proud of your children. The pizza party will be during lunch time, so they will not have to bring a lunch this Thursday. Thank you PTO!!

This Friday, we will have another party :) The kids asked me if we could have a party because I am graduating this Saturday. Of course, I said we could have a graduation party!! After all, I wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't for them! I will officially have my Masters and be endorsed in Early Childhood Special Education. Hooray!! We will just be having cookies, doing some dancing and a little extra recess.

This Friday is the last session of Passion Projects. After break they will get to choose a new PP.

NEXT Thursday, we will have a Polar Express Party. the children can wear pajamas and bring stuffies. We will make hot chocolate, decorate cookies and watch the Polar Express.
Please look for the Sign-Up Genious. We will need donations of frosting, sugar cookies, sprinkles, a big jar of hot chocolate and small Styrofoam cups.
This week in Superkids, we will:
-Understand and discuss the meaning of Memory Words feather, weather, meant, breath, already, instead, healthy, heavy, breakfast, break, steak, great
-Encode Pattern Words with -ōld, -ōst, -īnd, and ea/ĕ/
-Read and write words with suffixes -ful and -less
-Appreciate and use similes

Ask your child: how doe the suffix -ful and -less change the meaning of the word?
In guided reading, we will:
red a new chapter book called, Wagon Wheels
We will work to master these comprehension reading skills for fiction:
Determine important ideas
Draw and support conclusions
Understand characters
Understand setting
Connect text to self or experience
Sequence events
Recall details
Determine cause and effect

Ask your child: What is the plot of Wagon Wheels. What initial problem did the family face and how did the problem get solved?

In writing, we will:
write an advice column similar to what we read in our Super Magazine. The children will think of questions and give advice to their friends about how to solve a particular problem.

Ask your child: What question are you helping your friend answer and what is your advice?

In math, we will:
continue to work on place value and adding two digit numbers within 100.
This week we are solving for problems with the Change Unknown and the Start Unknown
Ask your child:
Sally had 34 star stickers. She bought some more star stickers at Sticker Station. Now Sally has 34 star stickers. How many star stickers did Sally buy at Sticker Station?

This is a Change Unknown problem. Ask your child the following questions:
  1. What information do we know?
  2. What are we trying to find out?
  3. Do we know the starting amount?
  4. Do we know the ending amount?
  5. What changed?
