This week in Superkids, we will:
Read words with /kn/ /gn/ /wr/ and /mb/ Encode words with intial kn, wr, and gn Read and write words with prefix un- Use a dictionary to looks up words Participate in discussions Spell memory words from this week Ask your child: How do you look words up in a dictionary? When do we use the prefix un-? What happened this week in your decodable? (Soccer games) This week in writing, we will: Continue our focus on our driving question, “How do we use our voice to tell a story?” Read stories with similar central messages Use a graphic organizer to compare and contrast two stories Begin thinking about what kind of story we want to tell Ask your child: How did different authors use their voice/culture to tell the story of Cinderella? What does a venn diagram do? This week in math we will: Subtract three digit numbers using base ten Understand regrouping when practicing two digit subtraction Add several two digit numbers Compare numbers using greater than and less than Ask your child: Which number is greater 345 or 354? Why is it important that place value is lined up when adding or subtracting vertically? What are the different strategies for subtraction?

This week in Superkids, we will:
Read words with /oo/ Identify meanings of homonyms Spell memory words Participate in discussions Understand and use quotation marks Read words with ew, ue, oo, u /oo/ Idenifty and use compound words Ask your child: How is the word “glasses” a homonym? What does the compound word “that’s” mean? Small group: In small group we are working on Comprehension skills from iReady. We are reading a short story and then using the text to answer questions. Students need to refer to the text to find the appropriate answer. Ask your child: What is comprehension? Why is it important? This week in writing we will: Dive into our first PBL driving question “How do we use our voice to tell a story?” Tell a story through a form of physical art (dance, music) Read two versions of Cinderella and discuss story elements Create a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast characters from both versions of Cinderella Create interest-based graphic organizer to compare and contrast two things Ask your child: How do authors use their voice to tell a story? What does compare and contrast mean? How did the two versions of Cinderella compare to one another? How were they different? This week in math, we will: Compare 3 digit numbers Add three-digit numbers Subtract three-digit numbers Write numbers in written form Add several two-digit numbers (with regrouping and base ten) Ask your child: What do the symbols < > mean? Which number is bigger, 352 or 328? What does the number 257 in written form look like?
