I hope all of you had a wonderful and relaxing Mother’s Day! So many thanks this week…. Thank you! Thank you form the bottom of my hear for the birthday wishes, cards, flowers and treats brought in to share with the children. I am so very lucky to have such a supportive group of parents and spectacular group of second graders. They made my birthday VERY special. Also, I don’t want to forget to thank all of you for making Teacher Appreciation Week so special. I feel very appreciated!! A GIANT shout out to Jil for collecting money, screen printing our t-shirts and tye-dying them. We are so grateful for all her help. I can’t wait for you to see the amazing field day t-shirts. Speaking of field day, please have your child wear close toe shoes and comfortable clothes. It is supposed to be really nice out so don’t forget a hat, sunscreen and a water bottle. I WILL NOT BE SENDING SHIRTS HOME. Your child will change into their field day shirt tomorrow morning. Volunteer needed: Helping Mrs. Brady Move Boxes to the Gym. Not sure if you heard, but Southmoor is getting a much needed HVAC upgrade this summer. This means all interior classrooms MUST be packed and boxed. All of our stuff must be moved into the gym . I will have 10 or less boxes/tubs that need moving. Are you a Dad with a dolly? A mom that loves to lift weights and can skip the gym for the day after moving a few boxes? If so I could use your help. Please let me know if you are available ANY time during the day. We have finished up end of the year testing! Hooray! End of year i-ready reports will go home next week in your child’s portfolio. Please take time to go through your child’s portfolio with them. There is some fantastic writing! Their portfolios will also include their Natural Disasters PBL project and their Super Magazine. Hopefully, we will have our end of year memory books included as well. Field day is THIS WEDNESDAY. Our class will participate from 1:10-2:50. Please come cheer us on! At the end of the unit the children will have published their own cover to cover magazine. Ask your child: what Snack Attack they created and wrote about? Next up, we will begin our memory books. This week in math, we are continuing to learn the basics of multiplication as well as reviewing story problems and two and three -digit addition. Next week, we will be sending home lots of our stuff. Please send your child to school every day with their backpacks. Thank you to all of our zoo volunteers. It was such a wonderful day!
Next week, we will take our i-ready math test. We have wrapped up out literacy i-ready test form last week. Final i-ready reports will be going home the week of May 21st in their portfolio binders. Field day is NEXT WEDNESDAY. Our class will participate from 1:10-2:50. Please come cheer us on! Upcoming dates - May 16th-Field Day Brady’s class participates 1:10-3:30 - May 25th-Birthday celebrations for May and June - May 28th- No school-Memorial Day - May 29th- Second grade picnic at Southmoor Park 9:15-11:45am - May 31st Last day of school- dismissal at 12:45 This week we will finish up Superkids. Our focus this week is about adverbs and adjectives and proverbs. Ask your child what each of these are. Proverbs are a little tricky. Ask your child what the following proverbs mean: Don’t count your chickens before they hatch. They early bird gets the worm. Don’t cry over spilled milk. This week in writing, we are working on our Super Magazines. At the end of the unit the children will have published their own cover to cover magazine. Ask your child: what feature article are you writing? This week in math, we are continuing to learn the basics of multiplication. Children will be working with arrays, even and odd numbers and equal groups. Some of us are already working on multiplication. Lots of us have some of our tables memorized but we are really focusing on breaking down the problem so they understand what multiplication means. We will be wrapping up our landforms unit. This went a little longer than we expected because of the current volcanic activity in Hawaii. The children had to first plan and then draw a land mass containing several different landforms. This week we will be recreating our landforms out of clay. Watch for these to come home. |
