This week in Superkids, we will:
read pattern words with /or/, spelled or, oar, ore, our, ar, and oor understand and use abbreviations use capitalization rules and correct punctuation sequence events determine cause/effect Ask your child: what are the different sounds for /or/? What is an example of cause/effect? Give me an example of an abbreviation. Small Group: Your child is reading a book in small group. Have your child tell you the characters so far and any "aha's" s/he may have This week in writing/PBL, we will: begin studying animal adaptations learn vocab words: adaptation, camouflage, hibernation, migration, focus on how birds have adapted over time and why Ask your child: What is a physical adaptation? What kind of animal uses camouflage? We will also be taking time to review for iReady testing coming up. This will include cause/effect, compare/contrast, sequence events, author's purpose, context clues, point of view, main idea, text features This week in math, we will: analyze a tiling as an array of squares with no gaps or overlaps determine the number of squares used to tile a rectangle create a tiling of squares to fit a rectangular shape build on the concept of an array and composing shapes as they tile a rectangular shape using congruent triangles Ask your child: In an array, which way to columns go? What about rows? How are arrays like multiplication?
